Sales Prospecting Perspectives is pleased to bring you a post from Business Development Representative Kyle Smith.
I recently made a trip back to my Alma mater to conduct some on campus interviews of college seniors. Each person we interviewed had applied for the position of entry level Business Development Representative. We had a lot of great candidates and also a couple of really bad ones. Through the interview process, I started to recognize all of the similarities between a job interview and a cold call. I could easily go through one of the more promising interviews and say why it was good, but instead, I’d rather review one of the ones that didn’t turn out so well.

In today’s Spotlight, we let Sam get her revenge on her bestie, Amanda!
Amanda was born in Middleton, Connecticut. She was living the dream in Franklin, Tennessee until her family made the best decision of her life to move to Grafton, MA in 1999, where she met me on the glorious soccer fields of our youth. From there our friendship blossomed and I learned to accept the fact that she wouldn’t stop following me around. From high school (including many clubs and activities), to UMass Amherst where we lived in the same area and had some classes together, and now AG Salesworks where we used to both enjoy the Island life before she got voted off. I have learned a few interesting things about Amanda over the past ten years and figured I should share them with the world.

Today’s Spotlight features one of our newer BDRs, Sam! Amanda sits down with her to discuss school, entertainment, and… magic!
It is my pleasure to introduce my good friend of 12 years, Samantha Goldman (also regularly referred to as “Sam” or “MANTHA”). I grew up with Sam in the small town of Grafton MA, where we got to know each other playing defense for our town soccer teams and watching Billy Elliot on the weekends. I always knew Sam was special, but at the young age of 11 she was invited to attend the very prestigious Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Sam was a natural at balancing sports, schoolwork and life as a witch. Often describing herself as a “closet nerd,” she effortlessly graduated Hogwarts with high honors as a Hufflepuff, perfecting every spell in the book. Soon after, she decided to enroll at UMass Amherst where she realized that she preferred Bud Light to Butterbeer and that partying was more fun than fighting Voldemort. Now Sam is loving life in the mortal world, working at AG Salesworks.
I was able to sit down with Sam for a short interview where I learned that she is very indecisive, so hopefully you’ll learn a little about her too.

Sam currently resides on the Island where you will most likely see her wearing purple and eating Goldfish with Tiffany. If you want to get to know her better I would suggest offering her some moist cake; it’s her favorite.

Before coming to AG, Kaylan was a student at UMass Amherst where she studied Marketing and Creative Writing. Her favorite thing about working at AG is the management team because they are always receptive to their employees needs. Kaylan said her favorite AG moment was not the summer party last year, but the day after the party when former coworker, Tom, did a Zumba dance to S&M by Rihanna in the middle of cubeville. Another great moment in Kaylan’s AG history was when her pup, Rondo, was featured as the pet spotlight of the week. Or the time Rondo peed on Pete’s gate.
Kaylan is an adrenaline junky, which probably stems from following around her older brother, Seth, who she describes as “just as much of a sicko as me.” When she isn’t working hard at AG, she spends her time on adventures with Rondo and, if weather permits, skiing. Kay said, if she could go anywhere in the world it would be Switzerland so she could ski the Alps.
Kaylan sits in a once secluded area of the office, fondly refereed to as The Island. Her oldest Island buddy, Kat, says Kaylan is a wonderful person to work with. They “work together as a team, always helping each other. Some would even call us partners in crime!”

Lauren came to AG after graduating from UMass Amherst with a degree in Finance, but says that she was not a novice to the business world. Her first job was at the ripe age of six, at a beach club on the Jersey Shore. She and a friend started a business called Beauty by the Sea where they sold friendship bracelets, beaded jewelry, nail and toe polish, and many other products and services. She said “a good day of business was when we made enough money for each of us to get an ice cream from the snack bar. On a less successful day we had to settle for splitting an order of mozzarella sticks.”
When she’s not at AG Lauren spends her time shopping, gossiping, watching Real Housewives of New Jersey (and everywhere else) and reading. ‘Lulu’ also spends a lot of time on social media sites (she is AG’s Pintrest expert). When asked what her favorite social media sites are she basically listed all of them saying “I love them all! Facebook to see what is going on in my friends lives, Instagram to see how artistic my friends are, Pintrest to see how creative/productive I could possibly be one day, and Twitter to see what my fave celebs are up to.” She loves being a member of AG’s Social Media Mafia because it allows her to share her obsession with other “social media psychos”.
Some of Lauren’s favorite moments at AG include spontaneous dance parties in Laney’s office to classic songs like My Humps and Call Me Maybe. This is always a great opportunity for her to show off her impressive jumps from her years as a cheerleader (as you can see in the picture above). She said she thinks all that practice and hard work really paid off at the company summer party last week when they hit the dance floor!
Lauren noted that she also enjoys being wined and dined, so if there are any single men out there in the Tumblr-verse you can find her on Facebook.

Tiffany is a new addition to the AG team. She came to us a couple months ago after graduating from UMass Amherst where she also worked in the Administration and Finance office. She stumbled upon AG on UMass’ recruiting website and we are so glad she did!
When Tiffany is not working hard at AG, she spends her time at the beach with her friends, snowboarding, 4-wheeling, and eating cookies. She loves chocolate chip cookies so much her friends call her the Cookie Monster! She has big travel plans, one of her goals in life is to visit Australia and she has always wanted to backpack through Europe.
Tiffany’s desk is located in a secluded section of the office known fondly as “The Island”. She said her favorite AG moment was when her fellow Islander, Kat, was trying to leave a voicemail while she had the hiccups. She tried her best to hold her composure (and hold in her hiccups) but everyone on the Island was laughing so hard she had to accept defeat, hang up, and call back again once her hiccups and giggles had passed.
Tiffany once dreamed of being the first woman in the NFL… now she “sometimes watches football when her boyfriend wants to.”

When you walk through the doors of AG the first thing you will see is Kevin’s smiling face waiting to welcome you. He came to AG 3 years ago after graduating from UMass Amherst with a degree in Marketing and a minor in IT. Kevin is a huge Boston sports fan and loves going to the Celtics and Sox games. Anyone who knows Kevin understands that his favorite thing in the world is his Bengal cat KiiKii (not his wifey), who frequently stars in LOLcat images created by Kevin.
Words can’t properly describe what a character Kevin is, so instead here are some pictures that might help…

Katherine (aka Kat) joined AG Salesworks after graduating last year from UMASS Amherst with a degree in Marketing. Currently, she is calling into IT and Quality Assurance departments for software development testing and business process management. Her favorite part about working at AG is the people. “You just can’t find coworkers like them. They make for such a fun and comfortable work environment.” Kat is enjoying her success at work and each month, she aims to exceed the goals set in front of her and top our leader board. Her favorite moment at AG was winning one of our Superbowl squares; she’d never won anything before and views it as a great accomplishment. When not working, Kat is an avid reader, a foodie, and lover of the outdoors.

Kira joined the AG Salesworks team in October, 2011. She calls in to enterprise accounts in Canada, Pennsylvania and New England on behalf of job scheduling/ workload automation. When asked what the best part of working at AG is Kira responded, “I love the atmosphere in the office and how open we are to learning from one another. I never have to feel apprehensive when it comes to asking questions. I can always turn to my peers and gain insight as to what works for them in certain situations and I think that is really important.” She also enjoys the Friday contests here at AG, saying “they are a great way to keep us motivated throughout the week, plus they’re highly entertaining, especially the dance off!”
Before her AG days she studied at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and majored in communications. When she’s not teleprospecting, Kira enjoys travel, theater, fitness and international cheeses.
